We at the La Tigra Rainforest Lodge have purchased 60 hectares of meadows and passion fruit plantations. One hectare in this region costs approximately $20,000. We can plant roundabout 800 to 900 trees per hectare. This means, we need approximately $23 per tree for buying and protecting this land. In addition, we pay seedlings (approximately $2). Preparing the land and caring for the tree for three years costs us approximately $5. A total of approximately $30 per tree. Our guests pay this amount and receive a certificate in return. The certificate contains the following information:
- Donors name
- Tree species
- Coordinates of the tree
- Which part of the property
- Information about your tree
And if you will leave your mailadress,you will get an update every six months. After planting the tree we will take care of the trees for three years. After this time, we will release it to the nature. 83% of the trees will survive and will grow up to 60 meters high.
Why do we plant in La Tigra?
La Tigra Lodge and Reserva Bosque La Tigra is located near La Fortuna and the majestic Arenal Volcano, in a region known for its tropical rainforest climate. This means warm temperatures, high humidity, and a fair amount of rain throughout the year.

Can companies or organisations plant trees, too?
How do you plant your tree?
If you stay in our La Tigra Rainforestlodge you can plant your own tree. You will get the seedling from our staff and we will show you, where you have to plant your tree. This is not a hard work, we will set everything for you and if you want, we also we can assist you.
Can I donor a tree?
If you can’t plant the tree in person, we will do it for you. You can donate your tree and hopefully visit it later. We work together with dirfferent schools from La Tigra and the kids will plant the trees in your name. This “ecological days” are sponsored from our partner ecoterra viajes and it is a perfect day for the students to learn to know, how important the trees are.
